The client hired uppteam’s Architectural Offshore Production (AOP) team to produce an end-to-end construction documentation set for the renovation and upgrade of an existing church in Sedona, Arizona.
The scope featured existing/demolition and proposed floor plans, life safety planning, code compliance review, reflected ceiling plans (RCP), enlarged plans, sections and details, equipment plans and schedules, and interior finish documentation. All these drawing sets needed to be developed while protecting the building’s original architectural character.
Project Timeline
- Phase 1 - This first stage of project work began by documenting all existing conditions and finalizing the demolition plan. Our team completed the life safety plan and code compliance review during this period, establishing the regulatory framework for all drawings.
- Phase 2 - Building on that framework, we advanced this phase by developing proposed floor plans, RCPs, and enlarged plans — layering in sections and details to convert design intent into buildable instructions.
- Phase 3 - The final phase focused on equipment plans and schedules, along with interior finish documentation. After that, we executed an internal QA/QC review to deliver the final coordinated, construction-ready drawing set on schedule.
Additional Notes
- The most difficult part was not the drafting speed but restraint. When it comes to renovating a church, weighing functional enhancements against decades-old architectural identity that congregants recognize as home is essential.
